Do you have a particular need that you intend to exploit? When writing your business plan, the second thing you have to know is your niche market. That is the particular product or service that a particular group of people are looking for. If an entrepreneur intends to start a business related to food, then that market is large. To get to the target market one needs to narrow down this market. Do you want to deal in groceries, a bakery, a restaurant, a butchery or… the list goes on. Once you decide if it is a restaurant, you need to identify the kind of customers you are targeting. If its working class, students, families or a high end restaurant for the wealthy. Therefore know who your customers will be.
This will then make the entrepreneur to know where to find the niche market. If its in an area close to schools and colleges, then it would be best to open a fast food type of restaurant. It would be unwise to open a classy restaurant in this area as you will struggle to get the customers walking through your doors. Remember the location of the restaurant will detemine your niche market. Establish your business where you are assured that there is a high demand for the product or service you are supplying.
When doing your research, the feedback you received about the product or service will determine if your niche market will be in the area you carried out the research. By knowing your niche market an entrepreneur will minimise risks especially if you correctly analyse the feedback received. You will know if the price you are offering will have customers willing to pay for it. At this point it would be wise to make the decision whether to pursue the business to reinvent your idea or to simply not start the business if the idea will not provide a solution to a need. Therefore continue to be on the look out for another product or service that people will be willing to pay for and want. An entrepreneur should let this be a continuous process because the business will need to develop as you build it.
